35th
Annual Big Brothers Big Sisters Half Marathon and 5K Run/Walk for the Magic
August 11, 2012
Wheeler Park,
211 West Aspen St, Flagstaff, Arizona
6990 ft. Above Sea Level!
This is the 35th annual Big Brothers Big Sisters Half
Marathon/5K. Walkers can participate too! All proceeds benefit Big Brothers Big
Sisters of Flagstaff programs that help children succeed by matching them with
appropriate adult mentors. A hi-tech t-shirt is included too! The race begins
at Wheeler Park just west of Downtown Flagstaff.
This beautiful course follows the Urban Trail, climbs a steep hill onto
Observatory Mesa (where astronomers discovered Pluto), and follows Forest
Service dirt roads on the mesa top. Runners will see spectacular views of the San Francisco Peaks throughout the race. Walkers can
participate but must register by Friday night to make the special 6 AM start! Be prepared to catch your
breath during both races as elevations range between 6900 ft at the start, to
7600 ft at the turn around! The 5K is a shorter course also on Observatory
Mesa. Pre-race packet pick-up takes place at Thorpe Park starting Friday,
August 10th at 6:30 PM.
Join us for a pre-race Fratellis Pasta Dinner at Thorpe Park.
This is free to all runners and $5 for non-participants. As you head north on
HWY 180 through downtown Flagstaff,
make a left on Birch Street
and follow all the way to the end. Signs will direct you there! You can also
pick up your packet beginning at 6:00
AM in Wheeler
Park on the day of the
race.
