9/9/2008:See Bruce Higgins' Imogene Pass Run photos!. Flagstaff runners remarkably returned home with 13 of the 72 age division awards (just under 20%), with 3 golds, 3 silvers and 7 bronze medals! Durango, Boulder, Telluride and Colorado Springs runners tied for second, taking home 5 division medals each. Congrats to all finishers!

8/3/2008:4th Annual Blue Cross Blue Shield Flagstaff Final Summer Running Series Standings! Congatulations to Sara Wagner and Robert Krar for their wins in the Open Division and to Phil Wharton and Paula Aerts for winning the Master's Division. We will award Salomon trail running shoes awarded to the top 6 men's open division and the top 9 in the masters. On the women's side, we will award shoes to the top 11 open and top 4 in the masters. Scores are based on your percentage finish against the overall gender standings.

8/2/2008:Congratulations to all Machine Solutions Soldiers Trail Race participants! Jared Scott again won another Flagstaff trail race in 36:30, edging Robert Krar's 36.55. On the women's side, Beth Ellickson edged out out Sara Wagner by 7 seconds winning in 44:16. 7/26/2008:On Saturday, July 26th, NATRA and Flagstaff Biking Organization co-sponsored the Arizona Trail Close the Gap event. 60 volunteers from across the state including 10 NATRA runners helped build another 1/2 mile of the Gap amid threatening weather and heavy downpours. 6/21/2008:Congratulations to all Gaspin in the Aspen participants! Jared Scott again lowered yet another Flagstaff race record to 55.19 in the men's 15K and Sara Wagner did the same for the women's race breaking her own record in 70.11! On the Master's side, Mark Ulm took first in 64.24 and Chris Purslow won the women's race in 75.14. In the 5K, 16 year-old Zach Nelson took the Men's Open top honor in 22:01 and Amanda Balik won the Women's Open 5K in 26:53! 6/7/2008 (1:30 PM):Congratulations to all Sacred Mountain Prayer 10K, 5K and 2K finishers! Austin Baillie won the 10K in 34:18 and Sara Wagner won the women's race in 43:21! In the 5K, Matt Rowell took the men's top spot in a lightning quick 17:15 and remarkably, 10 year old Alexandra Novacek won the women's 5K in 26:43! Race results now posted!

4/28/2008:8th Annual Soulstice Mountain Trail Race Registration is closed! If you registered and wish to be considered for the Salomon Flagstaff Mountain Trail Runner Trophy ($2,000 in cash prizes), also sign up for the Flagstaff Nordic Center's Gaspin in the Aspen 15 K on June 21st and the North Country Community Health Center Flagstaff Half Marathon (or marathon) and 10K on September 27. To qualify, you must e-mail us at neilw@npgcable.com and do all short courses (5K - Gaspin,10K - Northland, 10K- Soulstice) or all long courses (15K - Gaspin, Half or Marathon - Northland, 11.25 mi - Soulstice) at the three races. If you choose to do the Marathon your time will simply be divided in half. 4/1/2008:Girls on the Run International has granted approval for Flagstaff resident Stephanie Ludwig to operate a Girls on the Run council in Coconino County. Girls on the Run is a non-profit prevention program that encourages pre-teen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running. Read the news release for all the details!

 

4/1/2008:Run for the Fallen (www.runforthefallen.org) is a non-political cross country run dedicated to commemorating the American soldiers who have given their lives while serving our nation in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Beginning June 14, 2008, a dedicated team of runners will run one mile for every soldier killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom. At the completion of every mile, an American flag and a personalized sign card will be placed in remembrance of each fallen soldier. Right now, they plan on covering over more than 4,000 miles and 13 states before finishing at Arlington National Cemetery on August 24, 2008. They hope to enter Arizona on Rt. 163 on Monday June 23, run near Prescott (June 25/26), Sedona (June 26/27), Flagstaff (June 27/28) and Tuba City (June 29) before entering Utah on June 30. 2/7/2008:On February 28th, Core Balance Therapy will host a free running clinic. They will be offering gait analysis with video, advice on cross-training and training regimens, orthotic advice, running shoe advice and other info.  There will be 4 physical therapists and one athletic trainer running the stations, and shoe reps on site.  This clinic is geared toward non-elite runners who are interested in recreational and competitive running who want insight into injury prevention or recovery, as well as training advice. 11/29/2007:As many of you know, we lost one of our most talented distance runners during the Olympic Trials in New York City on November 3rd. Ryan Shay was not only a testament to what hard work and dedication can produce, but he was also a respected, fierce competitor, friend to many and a husband. As a request for those close to Ryan, Northern Arizona University Center for High Altitude Training has set up a Memorial Fund to help talented runners like Ryan train and live in Flagstaff. 10/13/2007: Soulstice 2007 Photos posted! Congratulations to Jared Scott and Erika Edwards who won the Soulstice Mountain Trail Long Course races on a cool crisp classic autumn day! Jared shattered the men's record by over 5 minutes (formerly set on a shorter course!) with an astounding 69:10. Erika's 85:52 shattered the women's mark by over 5 minutes as well! In the sprint course, Erin Hutchinson's 44:33 took the men's title while Amber Randall's 46:53 took top honors among women. Amber lowered the women's sprint course record by almost 4 minutes! 5/30/2007:Registration for the October 13th Soulstice Mountain Trail Run is closed. This year, Soulstice is part of the Salomon Flagstaff Mountain Trail Championship consisting of three races. If you have signed up for Soulstice, don't forget to register for the June 16th Gaspin in the Aspen 15/5K and the September 22nd Flagstaff Half Marathon so you will automatically be entered in the series. The fastest total of three races wins the title. $300 to the male and female long course winners, and $200 to the sprint course winners.

4/4/2007:March 30-31, NATRA sent two 12 person coed teams to the 187.2 mile Ragnar Relay from Wickenburg to Scottsdale. NATRA Team 1 (consisting of 8 women and 4 men) won the mixed coed division in 22 hours 4 minutes, well ahead of 32 other teams.The NATRA Pine Cone Smashers raced to a surprising 13th place finish. Combined Sprint Course Champions: Women: Emy Tice 1:45:44 Men: Michael Ort 1:16:11 (Each gets $100 Cash Prize and Plaque).

12/6/2005: Thanks to Flagstaff Wastewater Treatment Plant employees David McKee and Rick Taylor, Deb Hill’s support with Coconino County funding and a generous discount from Southwest Rigging, crane operators pulled the last two cars from Picture Canyon. As the crane struggled to lift the cars, David and Rick kept the vehicles from catching on the cliff walls. Thanks to all who pitched in to help restore Picture Canyon. Let’s hope it stays pretty as a picture!

10/26/2005:  Thanks to NATRA runners Susan, David, Monica, Rebecca, Marcus, Mark, Jut, Neil and David for volunteering to clean-up Picture Canyon, a prehistoric rock art site located east of the Rio De Flag Water Reclamation Plant. 67 volunteers helped pick up tons of trash and car parts on “Make a Difference Day”.  Read the story and see the photos of the dramatic crane lifts that started restoring this Canyon!

10/15/2005:  A record 192 Finishers at the Soulstice Mountain Trail Run!  Congratulations to Tom Sabol and Marcy Felt for winning the Long Course (16K) and to Gunter Ziwey and Jenna Krajewski for winning the 10K Course.  On a beautiful fall day, as snow dusted Humphrey’s Peak, the Flagstaff Nordic Center proved as challenging to runners as would have our traditional Seven Sisters and Sunset courses.  Check http://www.myracepics.com for photos. 9/24/2005:  Northern Arizona Trail Runners, City of Flagstaff Waste Water Treatment staff and Southwest Rigging employees volunteered to remove abandoned vehicles and cement from Picture Canyon!  Read the story and see the photos of the dramatic crane lifts!  On “Make a Difference Day” October 22, volunteer to clean up trash and complete the restoration of this beautiful canyon on the east side of town.
